Akattack Race, 27-01-08
As a warm up to the Karapoti, 4 hour Polaris style race in the hills of the Akatarawa Ranges, north of Wellington, NZ. I’ll miss you Ferg!
You! Need Soap!

Yeah so I had been without a shower for a 5 days so maybe the cook in the road side Ger had a point but even so, I thought it was alittle ‘direct’.
I managed to scrounge a lift from the northern Gobi area of the Bayonhongor and was feeling pretty good after a nighmare cold. [...]
Ullaanbaatar

ULN is a cool city once I got used to it. The people are super friendly but no-one really speaks English except it would seem for the local lawn mower shop.
I thought it was a camping shop and one of the workers spoke in brilliant English and explained that I was in the wrong part of town(in all ways, wrong [...]
Arrived in Mongolia

After a very long flight to Beijing and arriving in at 4am from Sydney! Had to hang about for a day to get a connecting flight to Ullanbataar at 5pm next day.
At last I arrived in Mongolia last night and it’s really hot! It’s 21:42 and still light outside (ahh, the northern hemisphere!), I’ve had [...]
Rack Arrived!

A mahoosive box turned up at work today with my new rear rack in it, which was nice. Neat welds, chunky gussets, a fine skewer – what more could you want from a rack?
Old Man Mountain Rack ordered..

Hope it gets here in time! I ordered the Cold Springs which can be configured for full suspension or hardtail bikes. The front rack also fits on suspension forks.
Orikaso Cup – I can’t figure it out!

Check out these puppies! Fold up plates, bowls and cups from Orikaso. Andy put me onto them – they seem like a great idea, flat pack, easy to clean and so forth. I spent 10 minutes trying to work out how to put the cup together and figured it was actually better to pour hot [...]
Truvativ or Race Face?

During the Tibet trip, I hairline fractured my bottom bracket. It was cool to ride without stress but needed replacing when I got back. It turned out to be cheaper to get a whole new crank and BB from Truvativ rather than replace the race face BB. Thing is, can I [...]
Bike Prep Pt 1

Emailed Old Man Mountain re their rack systems. The Top Peak rack was sketchy in Tibet, so am hoping to get a rack made up that can withstand the heavy gear in the bags. With Video camera, stills camera, tent, sleeping bag, tools, first aid kit, food, water (!), inner tubes, spare [...]
Earthed 4 Released

This is one sick dvd! Glentress, Japan, Canada, NZ World Champs – heaps of Peaty, Fairclough, Hill, CG, Akrigg action plus some wicked hard tail footage. “Here come the girls” is wicked!
Good to see the 4130 crew getting to Brazil at last :o)
Polaris done..

1 week, 3 runs up & down manly beach, 2 days moaning and winging on the bike about how unfit I am. We got thru it tho, 500 riders, 135km, 62.5km/hr max, heat, sweat and lycra….Alex, Andy, Fergal, me and 500 other riders make the trip to Black Springs near Oberon
Photos can be seen [...]
Polaris in 1 week
Went out for a spin with the boys today to Belanglo State Forest, half way to Canberra. The guys rode awesomly (is that a word?) and I sucked! One week to get fit and get the bike in order. So far I got a bent hangar, chain snapped 3 times and the [...]
Bought Bike Stand!

Amazing! This little puppy is a dream, makes servicing the bike much easier. Weird seeing the bike up high in the living room but.
